iPhone 17 and 18 versions by region
US, Dubai, Hong Kong, European and Chinese iPhones all work on networks in Kazakhstan. They differ in SIM layout and, for the Chinese version, in Apple Intelligence.

SIM and eSIM by region
From Apple’s tech-spec pages for each country. The SIM layout is set by the model number, not by the country the supplier is in.
- US (LL/A): iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 17e, 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max — eSIM only, up to two active.
- The UAE and the Gulf (AH/A), plus Japan, Canada and Mexico: the same models; iPhone 17 and 18 are eSIM only.
- Hong Kong (ZA/A) and Europe: iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17e and 18 Pro — one nano-SIM tray plus eSIM; two eSIMs instead of the plastic card also work.
- Mainland China (CH/A): iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max — two nano-SIMs, no eSIM. iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max — two nano-SIMs, a nano-SIM plus eSIM, or two eSIMs. iPhone 17e — nano-SIM plus eSIM.
- iPhone Air and iPhone Duo — eSIM only in every region.
eSIM-only versions
US and Dubai iPhone 17 and 18 run on eSIMs from mobile operators in Kazakhstan. Beeline, Kcell, Tele2 and Altel issue eSIMs in their apps, and Tele2 and Altel also through a Telegram bot. Two lines on such a phone means two eSIMs. Operator details are in the article “eSIM or SIM in an iPhone”.
iPhones sold through US carriers may be locked to that carrier; only the carrier can unlock them, not Apple. The status is in About, the Carrier Lock row: an unlocked phone reads “No SIM restrictions”.
The Chinese version
Besides two nano-SIMs, CH/A has one more difference: per Apple, Apple Intelligence features don’t work on devices purchased in mainland China, whatever country they are used in.
IMEI
The version doesn’t affect IMEI verification in Kazakhstan: a phone from the US, the UAE or Hong Kong goes through it the same way. Since 9 October 2026 individuals apply through eGov Mobile or portal.imei.gov.kz, with mandatory video identification. The procedure is in the IMEI registration article.
For a batch, the table of serial numbers and IMEIs is prepared before shipping, and at acceptance the IMEIs on the packing list are matched to the boxes.
What goes into the order
- Part number and model number for every line.
- SIM in words: “nano-SIM + eSIM” or “eSIM only”.
- New, not activated, not carrier-locked.
- Replacement if the version in the box doesn’t match the order.
